Editor-in-Chief

Job Summary:

Working with the Vice President, the Editor-in-Chief will focus on soliciting, writing, and editing technology, application, case studies and industry profile features for print, digital and social media platforms. This position requires a leader with a wide-range of knowledge in the machine vision industry, is able to spot and process industry trends and is able to manage free-lance staff and work with in-house editorial, art, production and sales staff. The Editor-in-Chief must be willing to travel to trade shows, vendor events and work closely with the sales and market team to promote potential revenue-generating content and event projects.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage strategy, quality, and timeliness of the editorial print, digital, and ancillary products

  • Manage editorial staff and processes

  • Be the face of the Vision Systems Design media platform to the industry, the digital, social and print audience, and the advertisers

  • Coordinate closely with Sales, Marketing, and Digital Media teams

  • Set editorial direction and strategy for the brand

  • Coordinate and edit all contributed and staff-written articles for print

  • Plan and execute all redesigns and updates of magazine, website, e-newsletters

  • Manage staff and contributors, coordinate editorial production

  • Write monthly column for the brand

  • Create annual Editorial Calendar and related text for media kits

  • Generate monthly editorial preview and highlights for sales

  • Develop and populate special content areas for special technology/industry supplements, blogs, and/or videos and podcasts

  • Work with marketing to develop promotional materials as needed

  • Partner with sales team to identify opportunities, foster relationships, and support all digital and print products and sales to advertisers

  • Work with Digital Media and brand staff to maximize web traffic and impact (e.g. landing pages, links, keywords, social media)

  • Plan and execute editorial budgets and invoicing

  • Frequent travel to represent the brand at trade shows or with customers

  • Speak at industry events as required

  • Assist with association outreach efforts

Specific Responsibilities:              

Find, search optimize, edit/write, and post (in the content management system) original news, feature stories, columns, round-tables and other content for the brand platforms and assigned supplements.     

Manage content contributions from subject matter experts, including editing, SEO and posting as needed.            

Provide production and/or copy-editing support for brand content working with editorial staff, art staff and production team.            

Work with marketing to develop promotional materials as needed and monitor web analytics to help ensure audience engagement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience creating and posting content for magazines, websites, or comparable background

  • Thorough understanding of all types of content delivery methods (web/e-mail newsletter/video/ mobile/audio/print) and best practices associated with each

  • Experience using social media and/or blogging to successfully engage audiences

  • Knowledge of web analytics

  • Excellent writing, SEO, and computer skills

  • Ability to manage editorial staff, including technology experts

  • Experience and proficiency using the AP Stylebook

 

Job Specific Competencies:

5 years as an advanced technology professional

In depth knowledge of vision systems technology

Knowledge of business and economic aspects of the machine vision industry
