Officer Magazine Announces 2021 Law Enforcement Design Award Winners

FORT ATKINSON, WI//December 3rd, 2021

OFFICER Magazine announced the winners of its second annual Law Enforcement Design Awards (LEDA) program, which recognizes outstanding architecture and design from law enforcement and public safety facilities nationwide.

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were issued across five categories of facilities in this prestigious competition: LE Facilities 1, 2, and 3 (by size); Training Facilities and Public Safety Centers. All 18 participating entries will be published in the December issue of Officer Magazine and online at Officer.com

“The Law Enforcement Design Awards brings the best in station, substation and training facility designs to departments across the country and helps our readers to prepare and plan for these long-term projects that become the center of the community for decades,” Frank Borelli, the editorial director for OFFICER Magazine, said. “The awards help our readers to be aware of the latest trends and design concepts that increase efficiency and safety in all law enforcement buildings. Whether an agency is building an entirely new station or renovating an older structure for contemporary use, there are valuable lessons to be learned from the designs that win these awards.”

Janet Wilmoth, Special Projects Director for Officer Media Group, noted each 2021 LEDA entry had unique examples of facilities designed for the community it served. “The trends in these 2021 Law Enforcement Design entries, including hardening of facilities, durable materials, emphasis on mental health, and future growth, all contribute to protecting law enforcement and civil personnel,” Wilmoth said. “They must be able to perform their duties from a secure and healthy facility.” Wilmoth added, “Responsibilities and challenges for law enforcement agencies are rapidly changing,” said Wilmoth. “Each entry in the LEDA is a winner for its personnel and the community they serve.”

Winners were selected by a panel of five judges, including a retired chief, now consultant, and four architects who specialize in law enforcement and public safety designs.
