The production manager is a member of the print publication production operation team. This position interfaces with colleagues in several internal department, external clients and vendors in the course of managing the production schedule, receiving and processing ad assets, producing purchase orders for print manufacturing, managing production expenses and other publication production activities.
Review ad insertion orders prepared by the sales team to verify that the order has been prepared in accordance with accounting protocols; and that subsequent invoices will meet client expectations.
Ensure the timely receipt of ad materials and verify ad creative meets required specifications.
Address customer inquiries pertaining to ad material deadlines and specifications.
Understand printing vendor capabilities and limitations. Provide guidance to publishers regarding decisions which impact manufacturing and distribution expenses.
Create the issue map and arrange the page-by-page ad placement.
Review publication page proofs to verify accurate ad placement and appearance.
Prepare print orders and additional instructions pertaining to the manufacturing and distribution of the print publication.
Key liaison to printing plant customer service reps on all matters including production schedule updates, product manufacturing instructions, and critical delivery deadlines.
Ensure accuracy of client invoices for advertising appearing in print publications.
Review, approve and assign expense codes to print vendor invoices
Routinely interact with art directors, editorial staff, marketing managers, audience development managers and accounting staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills; ability to set priorities, multi-task, and shift priorities as needed to meet deadlines.
Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Communicate proactively with internal and external customers.
Bachelors or Associated degree required; publishing or printing industry experience desired.
